Irrigation Groundwater Management Analysis: Technical Report & Presentation

Overview

Complete a dual-deliverable project analyzing irrigation groundwater dynamics in your selected Area of Interest (AOI) using WaPOR data and GEE:

  1. Professional technical report (10-12 pages)
  2. Executive presentation (5-7 slides)

Technical Report Requirements (10-12 pages)

1. Introduction & AOI Definition

  • Select and justify an AOI within WaPOR v3 data coverage
  • Convert AOI shapefile to GeoJSON for GEE analysis

2. Data Acquisition & Preprocessing

  • Access WaPOR L1 (PCP) and L3 (AETI, RET) data (2018-2025)
  • Document preprocessing workflow and temporal aggregation methods

3. Groundwater Modeling

  • Apply water balance procedure to estimate abstraction and recharge
  • Compare model with available local data
  • Identify groundwater stress indicators

4. Spatial & Seasonal Analysis

  • Map seasonal variability in groundwater dynamics
  • Conduct field-level analysis of irrigation patterns
  • Identify critical management zones

5. Conclusions & Recommendations

  • Synthesize key findings
  • Provide actionable management recommendations!

Executive Presentation Requirements (5-7 slides)

Create a presentation that distills your technical analysis :

  1. AOI Overview: Location, significance, key agricultural characteristics
  2. Methodology: Concise explanation of data sources and analysis approach
  3. Key Findings: Visualizations of groundwater abstraction/recharge patterns
  4. Critical Areas: Maps highlighting zones requiring management attention
  5. Recommendations: Practical actions for sustainable groundwater management

Assessment Criteria

Your work will be evaluated on:

  • Technical rigor and analytical depth
  • Quality of visual communication
  • Clarity and professionalism of deliverables
  • Practicality of management recommendations

Due date: [15-06-2025]
