Introduction to Module 5

Introduction

In the previous section you reflected on your research and how it can be mapped out. You used this to communicate your work more clearly; into distinct, coherent messages. You also analysed the language you use and found alternatives as well as analogies to explain things to non-specialists. In this module we will consider how numbers and statistics can be used to add more weight to your message.

Learning objectives

Upon successful completion of this module you will be able to:

  • Select the statistics that will be most meaningful to your audience
  • Communicate statistics more effectively to add more weight to your message
  • Tell a story through the numbers
  • Identify the difference of communicating numbers and statistics to non-specialists and journal readers
