After completing this unit, you will:
- know basic information about different types of sewer systems which can be used to transport wastewater, greywater or blackwater, including some basic design features and advantages and disadvantages of each system
- understand how simplified sewerage and small-bore sewerage work and how they differ from each other (use of household septic tank)
- have seen the concept of septic tank effluent pumping (STEP) sewerage systems
- know the advantages of simplified sewerage compared to conventional sewerage
- understand maintenance requirements for small-bore sewer systems
- know under which circumstances vacuum sewer systems could be an interesting alternative and have a basic understanding on how these systems work
