Webinar 'From emergency distance teaching to eLearning: the Algerian GIS experiment
When the COVID crisis started, many courses had to be suddenly given online. This resulted often in a switch to distance teaching, with classes streamed over the internet. Although that worked well in many places, there were also many challenges, related to internet infrastructure, use of tools and most importantly changing the way we teach and learn.
eLearning goes beyond distance teaching and there are many underutilised possibilities and opportunities. In this webinar Hans van der Kwast discussed the differences between emergency distance teaching and more effective ways of eLearning. We’ve invited Walid Moulahoum (Geomatic Solutions Company), an IHE Delft alumnus, to present about his experiments with eLearning courses for open source GIS in Algeria. He discussed the challenges and lessons learned.
Webinar 'Open education perspectives for water resources - examples from GIS and Hydrogeology'
Hans van der Kwast and Saul Montoya shared their experiences creating online educational resources, developing business models and dealing with challenges. Hans van der Kwast presented his experience converting his knowledge and teaching material into YouTube video tutorials on GIS. Saul Montoya then continued with a presentation on his experience creating websites for knowledge sharing in water resources: www.gidahatari.com and www.hatarilabs.com, which was followed by a short interview.
Webinar 'Tips and tricks for effective distance communication and teamwork'
During this webinar we discussed distance communication and the tools which can be used for that. Additionally we gave good practice advice for preparation and planning of online meetings, how to deal with security and guidelines for smooth and efficient meetings.
We are also curious to know about how people in other countries, particularly in the Global South, deal with online meetings. Please share your experiences with us via email, dupc_project@un-ihe.org.
Webinar ‘Distance teaching’
Dr. Wim Douven, coordinator of IHE Delft partnership programme (DUPC), gave a short introduction of DUPC2 and support of elearning and what the programme offers for partners. Dr. Hans van der Kwast then showed examples and shared experiences of distance teaching at IHE Delft, using Moodle. Colleagues from IHE Delft's Education Bureau were also present to answer questions.
Webinar 'Open Education for Water Professionals'
A webinar by Dr. Hans van der Kwast reflecting back on IHE Delft's lessons learnt on Open Education. The webinar looked into how IHE Delft’s tradition of sharing knowledge for water professionals can be combined with responding to the changing needs of our learners and the increasing availability of internet-based tools.
