Part 1: Introduction to Rainwater Harvesting
After completion of this unit, you will understand the importance of rainwater harvesting for water supply and will learn about different types of rainwater harvesting systems.
Part 2: Uses, Advantages and Limitations of RWH
After completion of this unit, you will be familiar with different potential uses of rainwater and understand the advantages and limitations of rainwater harvesting systems.
Part 3: System Components and Design Considerations
After completion of this unit, you will:
- be familiar with different components of rainwater harvesting systems;
- be able to calculate the amount of rainwater that can be harvested from a given rainwater harvesting system; and
- be able to make a preliminary design by calculating the sizes of storage tank and gutters
Part 4: Quality Aspects of RWH
After completion of this unit, you will:
- be able to understand and explain the main quality concerns with respect to potable use of rainwater;
- be familiar with different operation and maintenance requirements to maintain the water quality and methods of disinfection of rainwater.
Part 5: Examples of RWH systems
After completion of this unit, you will be familiar with the potential of rainwater harvesting under different circumstances and know of some successful examples of rainwater harvesting practices worldwide.
